Shearing is part of the yearly cycle in every alpaca's life. Here Winkie is getting his yearly sheering. He has one blue eye and is deaf, but that doesn't hold him back from being an extremely valuable farm asset. He is the alfa, and he produces absolutely outstanding fiber.

Here a veterinarian is giving Juarez, a gelding from White Barn Meadows Alpacas his rabies shot. Alpacas normally get a set of shots annually, and some get other preventative shots as often as once a month. Check with your veterinarian to see what they recommend for alpacas in your area.

A day in the life of the herd manager

Five suri geldings cushing in the snow

Five ARI registered suri geldings from BlackWater Treasures, located in Odessa, Missouri, USA. On this day, a bed of hay gives this group of alpacas the insulation they need from the snow covered ground, to allow them to maintain their correct body temperature.

Precious, a huacaya gelding from White Barn Meadows Alpacas, of Buxton, ME, USA, is cooling off in a kiddie pool. Although alpacas can survive in a wide variety of temperature ranges, owners must make sure that alpacas have a basic tools necessary for regulating their own body temperature every day.
